It’s time for another of those non-traditional Christmas movies my friends. Tonights movie doesn’t have elves or sleigh rides to the North Pole, theres no sugar plums dancing or tongues stuck to flag poles. No my friends, tonights holly jolly comes in the form of bullets, explosions and foul language. If you’ve never given Sam Jackson and Geena Davis a watch in The Long Kiss Goodnight, go grab some hot chocolate and your snuggly blanket cause heres what you’ve missed.
Samantha Caines life is pretty normal, shes a mother, schoolteacher and has a great boyfriend, which is quite good considering eight years prior she awoke badly injured, pregnant and suffering from amnesia. Shes been using cheap private detective/con man Mitch Henessey, to try and find out who she used to be. He’s had very little luck but good news, her past is about to catch up with her. Turns out Sam was a completely different person before, she smoked, she drank, she killed people for the government and there are some nasty people looking for her and they will stop at nothing to get to her. Bullets fly, shit explodes, days are saved and in the end we get that warm and fuzzy Christmas feeling.
I really love this movie, which in itself is a Christmas miracle because I can’t think of many Geena Davis movies I enjoy, I’m sure theres at least one or two…maybe. Its a film I can watch over and over, its just a bonus that it happens around Christmas and can be included in this list and for those reasons, The Long Kiss Goodnight gets a ranking of: I Saved Your Ass, It Was Great.
