It’s a question many of us have asked ourselves and our friends over the years. I mean sure we had that one guy a couple of years back, but the moment he slipped into that suit with the nipples he became a joke. See that’s the problem with introducing Robin into the Batman universe. The moment you do it detracts from the seriousness of the movies. Suddenly you have this kid running around in green and red drumming up memories of the “BANG” “POW” “BOP” Batman of the sixties.

“Holy rusted metal Batman!” Paying homage to the past can be a great thing if done properly and as much as I enjoy Batman Forever for it’s call back to the sixties Batman, the way it handled the character of Robin was the first strikes on the nails to the coffin that nearly killed the franchise. Batman and Robin was the hammer that sealed that coffin for nearly a decade.

Okay so it was only eight years, but a decade sounds so much more dramatic so we’re going to go with that.

For nearly a decade we waited patiently. Surviving only on the occasional rumor of which actor they would get to play Batman. We heard everything from Joshua Jackson to the future Superman Henry Cavill. Even Jake Gyllenhaal was batted around our imaginations before our thirst was final quenched with the announcement of Christian Bale as the caped crusader. Which people of course bitched about like they do with every announcement of every actor that has been cast in the role. With a new Batman cast, Christopher Nolan at the helm, and a villain we had never seen on the big screen we waited patiently to see if they would take a chance on our favorite sidekick.

For three films we waited. For seven years we wondered if he would make an appearance. There was much speculation as to who would play The Boy Wonder if the role was written into The Nolanverse, but in the end we were left with a halfhearted suggestion  at the possibility of the chance that John Blake would carry on the work of The Batman as possibly Robin or Nightwing in a movie that all of us knew was never coming.

It would be four years before we would look up into the night sky and see the Batsignal again. The next mention of Robin came in Batman v. Superman, and it came in the form of a graphited costume incased in plexiglass leading us to believe that Dick Grayson had moved on to become Nightwing and that poor Tim Drake had met his fate at the hands of The Joker.

So will we ever get the Robin we deserve? I choose to remain hopeful that at some point in the future they will find way to bring the character into the story, but chances are it will be the Death in the Family story line. I mean after all they wouldn’t want Robin cluttering up the universe for very long. That just another character to get in the way, and they already have trouble balancing the ones they have.

So to answer the question: Yes and No.

Yes there will be mention of Robin, and he may even pop up from time to time. Don’t look for him to hang around for very long though, and I’m kind of okay with that. If they did the Death in the Family story and really dug into it, then they could possibly get at least two really strong movies.

No, sadly kiddies I really believe that Robin will never stick around long enough to become  a card carrying member of the Justice League. He’s good for a story here and there, maybe, but if you add him to the mix full time then he would distract from Batman too much, and possibly confuse the audience that may be unfamiliar with the character. I know that sounds crazy, but there are some people out there that only know Batman from the movies. Plus DC/Warner Bros. has issues when they have more than one main character in a movie.

We must hold on to our hope that one day they will find a way to bring the Boy Wonder in to the fold. Even if they wanted to do a solo Nightwing movie I think we’d all be cool with that. They could skip the origin story and just dive into it head first. Thankfully we now live in a world that gives us multiple comic book movies each year so we have lots to keep us busy until then. Till next time friends, stay entertained

Battle For The Net

If you woke up tomorrow, and your internet looked like this, what would you do? Imagine all your favorite websites taking forever to load, while you get annoying notifications from your ISP suggesting you switch to one of their approved “Fast Lane” sites.Think about what we would lose: all the weird, alternative, interesting, and enlightening stuff that makes the Internet so much cooler than mainstream Cable TV. What if the only news sites you could reliably connect to were the ones that had deals with companies like Comcast and Verizon? On September 10th, just a few days before the FCC’s comment deadline, public interest organizations are issuing an open, international call for websites and internet users to unite for an “Internet Slowdown” to show the world what the web would be like if Team Cable gets their way and trashes net neutrality. Net neutrality is hard to explain, so our hope is that this action will help SHOW the world what’s really at stake if we lose the open Internet. If you’ve got a website, blog or tumblr, get the code to join the #InternetSlowdown here: else, here’s a quick list of things you can do to help spread the word about the slowdown: Get creative! Don’t let us tell you what to do. See you on the net September 10th!

By now you all have heard of the death of Mr. Robin Williams. Mr. Williams was one of my cinematic and comedic heroes. I seem to be losing more and more of them but I guess that comes with growing older. Having never had the pleasure to meet or know Mr. Williams I only knew him through his work and what a legacy he leaves.
I first met Robin when he became the star of his own sitcom, Mork and Mindy. It was watching him as lovable alien Mork that I fell in love with his erratic comedic stylings, laughing each week as Mork just tried to fit in with us humans.
By eighth grade I was reciting his stand up for my class mates and getting huge laughs not because we understood all the jokes but because there were some dirty words thrown in. I continued this practice through most of my scholastic career. Yes I can finally come clean. Most all of my comedy material from grades eight through twelve was stolen from Robin Williams. Thank you sir.
As much as I loved Mr. Williams comedy I loved his dramatic work more. The Fisher King remains one of my all time favorites. Dead Poets Society, Bicentennial Man, Good Will Hunting…the list goes on. I shed tears watching all of these films because Robin Williams is an amazing actor with the ability to steal every scene he was in without trying. I didn’t give two shits about Matt and Bens characters in Good Will Hunting, I wanted to spend more time with Dr. Maguire. Sorry Matt and Ben. Another of my favorites that always makes me cry is What Dreams May Come, an amazing and often overlooked film. I won’t spoil it by giving away the details, watch it, cry and love it.
Thankfully for every tear Mr. Williams caused me to shed, he also made me laugh. He was amazing to watch doing stand up but his big screen comedies were outstanding. Mrs. Doubtfire, The Birdcage and Death to Smoochy are just some of my favorites that had my sides hurting from laughing.
I almost let myself post this without talking about the amazing voice over work Mr. Williams has done over the years. The lovable Genie from Aladdin is my favorite and Happy Feet wouldn’t have been the same without him.
I could’ve just made this a list of Mr. Williams films and said I loved them all and that would have been true. Whether or not the movie was good didn’t matter because Robin Williams was going to be good in whatever role he had in it. Be it starring or bit part, comedic or dramatic or even the occasional cameo on a sitcom or even starring in a sitcom, I have always been a huge fan of Mr. Williams and fear the world will be a little less without him.
It occurs to me just now as I’m writing this that maybe we were fooled all along. Maybe Mork and Mindy wasn’t just the story of a lovable alien trying to fit into our world, maybe it was the truth hiding in plain site. Maybe wacky, lovable, amazing Robin Williams was the alien and all these years he’s just been trying to fit into our world. Maybe instead of dying, he’s just gone back to his home amongst the stars.
The YDKSAF family sends our thoughts and condolences to Mr. Williams family during this difficult time. You will be missed sir…

Day 17…
Day before yesterday…or was it the day before that?
I caught one of them.
His head caved in like a basketball with the air let out.
The bastard kept changing his face on me…
At one point he even looked like my best friend Dave
I finally went outside.
I had to bury him quick in case anymore of them were watching.
I feel a little more at ease now.
I’m plugging my phone up and getting some sleep…

I woke up this morning after sleeping for God knows how long. I felt fairly relaxed but my head still feels like someone is standing on it. I checked my phone, I had a mountain of notifications to dig through. I had several from Dave. The first one was from 2 1/2 weeks ago…The day it all began. It said “hey, came by your house but you were already gone. I ate some cereal and I may have left some dishes out. Sorry bro”.

Oh shit, what have I done…or is this just one of their tricks? I kept reading and the last one said “dude are you ok? You haven’t been returning messages. I’m coming by to check on you.” That was from two days ago…

Day E…Fuck I have no idea
Constant noises.
I’ve been hearing them moving through the house.
Somehow they got in.
No worry, I’m safe in here.
Ran out of food.
Starting to take its toll.
I wonder if this was their plan all along.
I’m not crazy
I know they’re out there.
I doubt I still have a job
Still no sleep
Started to doze off yesterday…or was it the day before?
I taped my eyelids up today to keep that from happening again.
It hurts like hell, but now they can’t catch me off guard.
Fuck I’ve got to charge my phone in case I need help…

Day 9 or is it day 10?…

Still no sleep. I boarded all of the windows and barricaded the doors, but I still don’t feel safe. I heard noises outside…I heard what they were saying. They’re plotting against me, I know it. The people I’ve always assumed were normal, quiet neighbors are plotting to kill me.

I’ve developed a system for eating and using the bathroom so I don’t have to leave my bedroom anymore. I’ve blocked the door in here too. I found a few things in the house besides my baseball bat to use as a means of protection.  I would like to see them try to get me now.

That goddamn spoon. It’s wrecked my whole life. I haven’t been to work since I found it. What the Fuck is that smell? I be they’re probably trying to get me to come out by piping in this smell. I should really call work. Fuck,  my phone is still dead…

Day 6

It’s been almost a week now since I found it. It might as well have been a bloody knife laying on the counter. Whoever left it there will be back, I just know it. I’m going to catch them when they do.

I’ve been patrolling the house almost constantly since it happened. I wonder if they’ve tampered with my food? I’ve been leaving all of the doors inside the house open so they can’t hide from me if they come back

I really need to sleep. I’m starting to get delirious but, I just can’t risk leaving the house. I’m starting to notice noises more and more, but I can’t tell if they’re real or not. Shit, my phone is still dead. I really need to charge it…
